Text2Mindmap has been all over the Web the last week. I don’t know if you’ve seen Mappio? I first came across that in September last year. It was originally launched as a plain-text-to-mindmaps converter. It didn’t take off.
Now it is a mindmaps library which still has the plain text to mindmaps converter available but has moved away from that focus.
When you start from a text outline, it’s hard to get away from a rigid tree diagram.
